Oshchadbank is considering alternative generation projects for more than 500 MW

Oschad News

This was stated by Yuriy Katsion, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Oschad, responsible for corporate business, during the EP chat expert discussion on the state and potential for restoring the country's energy capacity in the studio of Ekonomichna Pravda.

“At the request of companies in the large corporate business segment, Oschadbank is currently considering projects to develop decentralized generation with an installed capacity of more than 500 MW,” said Yuriy Katsion.

According to the banker, the deficit in the energy system will be observed for at least 1–2 years, so it is necessary to look for options that will allow businesses to move from temporary means of survival to stable solutions that will ultimately provide sustainable access to electricity.

“The focus of large banks will be primarily on rebuilding the destroyed 9 GW of electricity capacity. We have to finance the creation of new environmental solutions, which, among other things, coincide with the vision of our European partners and colleagues,” emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Oschadbank.

Before the full-scale war, Oschadbank financed the construction of about 1 GW of green generation in Ukraine. However, according to Yuriy Katsion, the banking system of Ukraine will not be able to finance the entire volume of rebuilding the destroyed generation in a short period of time.

“Investment projects for the construction of one gigawatt of electricity will cost from $700 million if gas piston or gas turbine technologies are used and up to $1.5 billion for, say, wind power. That is why it is important to attract the assistance of international partners, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. All the partners we communicate with confirm their readiness to participate in such projects,” said Yuriy Katsion.
