Oschadbank to finance the project of the ECO-OPTIMA group of companies to build 40 MW of wind power generation capacity
Oschad News
Oschadbank and ECO-OPTIMA Group, which is the largest group in western Ukraine engaged in the development and implementation of renewable clean energy sources and built the first wind farm in the region, have entered into a series of agreements to implement the project to build the Sokal Wind Farm in Lviv region with a total capacity of 39.9 MW.
The Sokal Wind Farm project envisages the installation of 7 modern wind turbines manufactured by the German company NORDEX, which should generate about 122 million kWh of electricity per year.
The total amount of financing provided by Oschadbank is EUR 40 million and includes, in addition to the loan, the provision of an irrevocable confirmed “green” letter of credit in the amount of more than EUR 23 million with the participation of the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) as a partner bank in the transaction.
Oschadbank is a leader in energy financing with a 30% market share. In 2024, after the decline in activity due to the full-scale war, the volume of loan agreements concluded by Oschad with energy sector companies in the corporate segment increased 4 times. In 2025, the bank continues to implement project applications developed with clients last year.
“This is Oschad's first major project with the ECO-OPTIMA group of companies, and we are grateful to our partners for their trust in our experience and expertise. The construction of the Sokal wind farm will be of great importance for the community and the whole country. The project, which will be implemented in a little over a year, will have a positive impact on the country's energy balance in terms of restoring the generation capacity destroyed by Russia, and is also an important step towards greening the energy mix.
For the Sokal community, the wind farm will provide additional jobs, revenues for land use and an alternative source of electricity, and the construction will also help build road infrastructure. Thus, the comprehensive impact of the investments made is much wider than just the implementation of the business plan, and this is really inspiring,” commented on the agreement signing Yurii Katsion, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Oschadbank in charge of corporate business.
“The construction of the wind farm is an important project for the state, as after the deliberate destruction of part of Ukraine's energy sector by Russia, the construction of new power plants is an indispensable stage of recovery, especially when it comes to the construction of environmentally friendly power plants.
I would like to emphasize that we managed to sign the loan agreement with Oschadbank in a very short time, in fact, in 2.5 months, which is a record result for project financing. I consider this a very successful start to active cooperation between the ECO-OPTIMA group of companies and Oschadbank. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but the first major step has been taken,” said Zinovii Kozytsky, owner of the ECO-OPTIMA Group of Companies.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with Oschadbank, which has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supporting projects that contribute to long-term sustainable development. In light of the ongoing energy crisis in Ukraine, it is encouraging to see companies investing in clean and green energy solutions that are vital to building a low-carbon economy. We are grateful to Oschadbank for its commitment to developing green technologies through trade finance in Ukraine, reflecting our shared commitment to fostering a more sustainable future,” said Shona Tatchell, Director, Head of the Trade Facilitation Program (TFP) at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
For reference:
ECO-OPTIMA is the first private company in Ukraine to receive a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in 2012 and build the first wind farm in western Ukraine. Since 2011, the company has implemented a number of energy projects. Along with the existing facilities, new investment projects are constantly being developed and implemented, including small hydropower and biofuels. Currently, the group owns 18 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 216.8 MW, of which 88.5 MW are wind farms.
